In Loving Memory

In Loving Memory of Brycen Robert Rylan Couture

Brycen was a brilliant creator and inventor. His greatest passion was singing. He penned and sang linguistically rich, haunting lyrics and melodies, and accompanied himself with his own guitar riffs. While fronting his band, Serenade II Darkness, Brycen appeared in a stage persona he created, “Divion”, which helped him unleash, through music and stage theatrics, the pain and anguish of his early traumas that he sustained prior to joining his forever family at the age of 11. Brycen was (is) a loving and beloved member of his forever family. He thrived for many years with the love of his family, friends, and community, as well as through the support and freedom (through homeschooling) for developing his creative genius. Brycen invented table top dice games, made Medieval chainmaille and role-playing outfits, started and ran two businesses at ages 12 and 17, was a public speaker with his Mom, was a prodigious rock climber, captivating poet, and he was a beautiful young man with his signature long, blond mane! Most importantly, Brycen was a loving peacemaker, spreading laughter and joy where ever he went. He loved Dungeons & Dragons, Pokemon, Bionicle, rocks, trees, wild animals, and multi-sided dice. He loved his entire circle of his forever family, as well as birthfamily, a special foster family, and friends. At age 23, Brycen died by tragic suicide on 9/27/2017 after a year-long relapse of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder due to a spiral of personal stressors that activated his past history of child sexual abuse, neglect, loss, and abandonment. Foster care records show that Brycen struggled with suicidal ideation and attempts as early as age 5. Brycen’s daughter was born after his death. He had feared that his child would be erased from his life and our family’s lives once she was born, and tragically, this turned out to be the case after his death. Brycen would be turning 30 years old in December 2023, and no doubt he is watching over his daughter and all of his loved ones, shining his light upon us all!
