Jason was born May, 3, 1975, the middle child, with a brother, Jeremy and a sister, Rachel. From the very first he was a friendly outgoing child, unlike his quiet and reserved siblings. As a young child he would greet each of the people who lived near us with a heart “howdy, neighbor”. He knew everyone around. In grade school, beginning about 6am we would receive phone calls from friends wanting to walk to school with their “ best, friend”, Jason.
Jason was always that child that you knew exactly whether he was happy or sad or mad or scared. He was never afraid to express himself.
Jason was a self taught artist and later took up tattooing.
At 32 years of age he was diagnosed with glioblastoma multi-forme. Given approximately 6-18 months to live. He beat that production, living 4 more years and passing peacefully in his sleep on October 31, 2011. At the various memorial services held for him in Colorado, Washington state, Kentucky and California, countless people reached out to our family, telling us that Jason was the best friend they had ever had. Sharing stories of things he had done to help them, from housing them when homeless to standing up to abusers to encouraging people to chase their dreams. He made friends with the most unlikely people, often the person who had no other friend. The hole he has left in our family and in his friend’s lives is unfathomable. He died on his favorite holiday, probably just to insure he won’t be forgotten. As a tattoo artist, he literally left his mark on hundreds and those not tattooed by him have had their lives marked as well.
