In Loving Memory

In Loving Memory of Jason Goehring

My beautiful and loving son, Jason (30), passed away on July 9, 2023 from fentanyl poisoning. He had been living with mental illness for about 10 years, and had key symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia for a great majority of that time. It was a time of some highs but mostly extreme lows. That time included hospital stays, ER visits, drug use, homelessness, jail time, wrecked cars, lost jobs, divorce, isolation and mental torment.

The world he lived in was a world of his own, and he never truly understood that he needed to seek treatment. Although he had days where his true character was shown through his humor, protectiveness, and kindness, the good days were becoming more and more infrequent. Jason was passionate about sharing his inventive ideas and thoughtful perceptions with those around him, but it was clear that he was consumed by his illness and a victim of his own mind.

We tried to help him on so many occasions, but were often met with challenges since he could not see that he needed help. His addictions led him to self medicate and in the end, he succumbed to his years-long struggle with this terrible and extremely sad and painful disease.
