The Arch

This piece was beautifully written by Pamela Hagens. Samuel’s Mom, from the TCF Nashville Chapter, as well as read by her at the 41st TCF National Conference at the Friday luncheon on July 27, 2018 in St. Louis, Missouri. The theme for the conference was “Gateway to Hope and Healing.”

The Arch – A huge piece of stainless steel established in 1965, will be viewed by many at the 41st annual TCF National Conference. The strength and stability of the stainless facade measures 630 feet high and 630 feet wide-from leg to leg. This clad stainless steel is the world’s tallest manmade monument in the Western Hemisphere. As many descend upon St. Louis, we are reminded that grief is huge; we don’t make it a monument, but it sure takes up a lot of moments.   We know that LOVE is monumental – the love for our children, grandchildren, & siblings take up a lot of heart space.   The total cost of the arch is said to be $13 million.   On our journey, the depth of love in the human heart for another soul is priceless.

The Arch – Such a massive piece of art built by human hands to restore and inspire. Love – A gift- Such a massive display of beauty designed to restore and inspire.

The Arch – rises above the city skyline. Love rises above despair. The Arch, has 60 foot deep foundations. Love, is the foundation. The Arch, was built to withstand high winds and earthquakes.  Love, was established to withstand all the forces.

The Arch – Such a massive piece of art built to restore and inspire. The Compassionate Friends; grounded in love and friendship – a resource to restore and inspire. May our time together in St. Louis under the arch be filled with many moments of refreshing, long breaths of inspiration, and frequent moments of quiet reflection and meditation.  May our time together, be the tallest glass of encouragement that the heart can embrace; May our fellowship be transparent and uplifting.

May our time together under The Arch; be a time of Hope – A Gateway to Hope and Healing.

  • I believe there are NO coincidences. NONE.
Today is the 8 year anniversary of my granddaughter Ruby’s death. Some years it is easier than others; some years it is more difficult (not that the anniversary is any different than any other day!)
This was EXACTLY what I needed to read. Love does rise above despair. This I know. This i needed to be reminded of.
    Thank you.
