2009 Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting Services - Louisiana

Communities across the globe will be joining in The Compassionate Friends 13th Worldwide Candle Lighting on December 13, 2009.

You are invited to provide us information about your Worldwide Candle Lighting event for posting so people in your area will know of your service and be able to attend. Please complete the Worldwide Candle Lighting Information Form.  Note: we reserve the right to edit all submissions.

IMPORTANT: If you attempt to submit your candle lighting service and we do not contact you or your service is not listed within 24 hours, please contact Joan@compassionatefriends.org.

Baton Rouge – Baton Rouge Chapter of The Compassionate Friends

Highlights: Readings, poems, music, and children's names by participants.
Bring: Refreshments if they would like to (bring to meeting room before service).

Chalmette – St. Bernard Chapter of The Compassionate Friends

Date & Time: December 13, 2009 6:30 PM
Location: The Children's Memory Garden in front of the St.Bernard Parish Government Building, 8201 W Judge Perez Dr, Chalmette, LA
Highlights: There will be a program of musical selections and readings in memory of our children.
Bring: Candles will be provided and those attending are welcome to bring a photograph or memento of a loved one to hold during the candle lighting.
Special Events (before): There will be luminaries surrounding the garden.

Harahan – First Baptist Church of Harahan

Date & Time: December 13, 2009 6:30 PM
Location: First Baptist Church of Harahan, 270 Oak Ave, Harahan, LA
Highlights: Poems read, special music, slide show, and list of names while candles are being lit.
Bring: Pictures or remembrance of their children.
Special Events (before): We will have a sharing time starting at 6:30 PM and will light the candles promptly at 7:00 PM.
Additional: If you would like to submit a picture for the slide show email them to west@ejld.com or patshan0927@cox.net. Please include your child's name so we can be sure to add their name to the list. We would like to have the pictures at least 2 hours before the service.

Lafayette – Acadiana Chapter of The Compassionate Friends

Lake Charles – Southwest Louisiana Chapter of The Compassionate Friends

Date & Time: December 13, 2009 6:30 PM
Location: Lake Charles Civic Center (Contraband Room-2nd floor), 900 Lakeshore Dr, Lake Charles, LA
Highlights: There will be a program of poems and readings beginning at 6:30 PM followed by lighting of the candles and a Power Point presentation of pictures and names of "Our Children, Gone Too Soon". Family and friends are invited.
Bring: If we don't already have a picture of your child or you want to provide a different picture, you may either bring the picture to the monthly meeting, email it to us at tcfswla@hotmail.com, or send us one by US mail (please contact James or Sharon Cook for the mailing address). We must receive the pictures by Dec. 12th.
Special Events (after): There will be refreshments after the program. Please bring finger foods to share.

Special Events (before): At 6:45 PM we will unveil our memorial wall then proceed with the candle lighting at 7:00 PM.

Metairie – Greater New Orleans Chapter of The Compassionate Friends

Location: Children's Memorial Garden in Lafreniere Park, 3000 Downs Blvd, Metairie, LA
Highlights: We gather at 6:30 PM in the parking lot by the Foundation Center. There will be a procession through a trail of light formed by luminaries leading to the garden. There will be a program of musical selections and readings followed by lighting of candles in memory of our children.
Bring: Candles will be provided. You may bring a picture or other memento of your loved one to hold during the procession and candle lighting.
