Communities across the globe will be joining in The Compassionate Friends 13th Worldwide Candle Lighting on December 13, 2009.
You are invited to provide us information about your Worldwide Candle Lighting event for posting so people in your area will know of your service and be able to attend. Please complete the Worldwide Candle Lighting Information Form. Note: we reserve the right to edit all submissions.

Highlights: Dr. Al Hickey, a bereaved father, will speak for approximately 15 minutes followed by readings from local member of the chapter. Kathy Casey will be singing one song. Reading of children's names will conclude event.

Hazard – The Broken Road Grief Support in conjunction with the Worldwide Candle Lighting

Location: Main St, Hazard, KY (in front of City Hall, around the fountain)
Highlights: Reading of children's names, special music, key note speaker Mike Seals (Laurel County, KY), lighting of candles, moment of silence.
Bring: Pictures or remembrances of loved ones to go on tables with candles, all refreshments provided.
Special Events (before): Open for anyone to share a poem, story, or special event of their child, grandchild, sibling, or loved one.
Special Events (after): Also sharing handouts about their loved ones, coffee, hot chocolate, and music.

Louisville – Hosparus Grief Counseling and Gilda's Club Louisville
Date & Time: December 13, 2009 4:00-7:30 PM
Location: First Unitarian Church, 809 South Fourth St, Louisville, KY (one block south of Broadway, across the street from the Louisville Free Public Library)
Highlights: From 4:00-6:15 PM the community is invited to create luminaries in celebration of their children being remembered; luminaries are gathered in the healing space, a special place of reflection and remembrance, with music and a reading of names every 1/2 hour. The candle lighting ceremony will be from 6:30-7:30 PM. The community is invited to join in solidarity with other programs across the globe for this celebration with reflective readings and music. Families will take their luminaries home with them at the conclusion of this celebration.
Bring: The community is invited to bring pictures and other mementos to decorate the Healing Space. Families will take theirs home with them at the conclusion of the candle lighting ceremony.
Special Events (before): Families unable to attend or who live outside the Louisville/Southern Indiana area can call and request a luminary be made in celebration of their children. Their children's names will be read aloud from the book of names and included in the candle lighting ceremony. Families who provide their current mailing information will receive a copy of the program and their children's luminary in the mail following the keeping of the day. Additional: Parking is convenient at just south of the church (on Fourth St, between First Unitarian and Calvary Episcopal Church). The main entrance is adjacent to this parking.
