2009 Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting Services - Georgia

Communities across the globe will be joining in The Compassionate Friends 13th Worldwide Candle Lighting on December 13, 2009.

You are invited to provide us information about your Worldwide Candle Lighting event for posting so people in your area will know of your service and be able to attend. Please complete the Worldwide Candle Lighting Information Form.  Note: we reserve the right to edit all submissions.

IMPORTANT: If you attempt to submit your candle lighting service and we do not contact you or your service is not listed within 24 hours, please contact Joan@compassionatefriends.org.

Albany – Albany Community Hospice

Date & Time: December 13, 2009 7:00 PM
Location: Fish Camp Retreat Center, 2908 Gillionville Rd, Albany, GA (just west of Westover Rd intersection)
Highlights: Guest speaker, special music, readings, and sharing of children's names.
Bring: A framed picture or a remembrance of your child to display on a table.
Special Events (after): Time of fellowship with warm drinks.
Additional: We will have a special memorial ornament to give for each family represented.

Athens – Augusta/Athens District of the A.M.E. Church (Sixth Episcopal District)

Date & Time: December 13, 2009 5:00 PM
Location: First A.M.E. Church, 521 North Hull St, Athens, GA (the church is located in downtown Athens, approximately 3 blocks from the UGA Campus (University of Georgia "Bulldogs!")
Highlights: We will have a Christmas concert featuring the combined youth departments of about 20 churches in the Augusta, Athens, and the surrounding areas. Since it is a youth event, we are including a special observance of the candle lighting and asking the participants to call out the name of a deceased child and we will ring a bell for each name called in remembrance.
Bring: We will encourage the attendees to bring pictures or a remembrance if they desire and place them on a memorial table.
Special Events (before): The first half of the concert will be presented.
Special Events (after): The conclusion of the concert will be presented followed by light refreshments in the fellowship hall of the church.

Atlanta – Hannah Angel Center, Inc.

Date & Time: December 13, 2009 5:00-6:00 PM
Location: The Ray and Joan Kroc Center - Salvation Army Atlanta, 967 Dewey St, Atlanta, GA
Highlights: Speakers, music, roll call of children's names, and refreshments.
Bring: We are accepting small items for children of need.
Special Events (after): Sharing will begin at the end of the program.

Atlanta – North Atlanta Chapter of The Compassionate Friends

Date & Time: December 13, 2009 7:00-8:00 PM
Location: Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, 471 Mount Vernon Hwy NE, Atlanta, GA
Highlights: Program will include lighting of candles, poetry readings, special music, slide show of children, and reciting of our children's names.
Bring: Candles will be available but feel free to bring your own. You are welcome to bring a photo or remembrance of your child for display.
Special Events (before): Please plan to arrive by 6:50 PM. Service will start promptly at 7:00 PM.
Special Events (after): After the candle lighting, snacks will be available. E-mail Mary if you would like to bring something to share.
Additional: Photos for the slide show can be submitted to Jim Reeves at jdr10@bellsouth.net. Deadline to get photo into the slide show is November 20th.
